Football

Football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by propelling a ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily using the feet, but players can also use other parts of their bodies, except for the arms and hands (with the exception of the goalkeeper). The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). A standard match consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a brief halftime interval. In addition to scoring goals, the game emphasizes skill, teamwork, and strategy. Football is played professionally worldwide and is one of the most popular sports globally, with significant tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and continental championships fostering international competition and camaraderie. The sport is also associated with deep cultural roots in many countries, drawing fans from diverse backgrounds.
