Premier League

The Premier League is the top tier of professional football (soccer) in England. It was founded in 1992 and features 20 clubs that compete against each other in a seasonal format. Each team plays 38 matches, facing every other team twice, once at home and once away. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system with the English Football League (EFL) Championship, meaning the lowest-performing teams can be relegated to the lower division while the highest-performing teams from the Championship can be promoted to the Premier League. The Premier League is widely regarded as one of the most popular and competitive football leagues in the world, attracting top talent and significant global television viewership. The league’s champion is awarded the Premier League trophy at the end of each season based on points accumulated throughout the matches.
