Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game takes place on a field with four bases arranged in a diamond shape. The objective is for one team, the batting team, to hit a ball pitched by the opposing team and run around the bases to score runs. The other team, the fielding team, aims to prevent runs by getting batters out through various means, such as catching batted balls, throwing the ball to a base before runners arrive, or striking out the batter.

Each game is divided into innings, with each team taking turns to bat and field. A team scores a run when a player successfully reaches home plate after touching all four bases in order. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.

Baseball is often referred to as “America’s pastime,” reflecting its historical significance and cultural impact in the United States, though it is also popular in many other countries. It is characterized by its unique terminology, rules, and traditions, and is associated with professional leagues, notably Major League Baseball (MLB).
